AQUATIC THERAPY
What is aquatic therapy?
Aquatic therapy is a method of rehabilitation performed in a warm pool. Aquatic therapy can allow patients struggling with land-based therapy to tolerate therapy better and ease the transition back to land-based activities for a wide variety of orthopedic, neurological, and cardiovascular conditions. Perham Health provides one-on-one therapy with a licensed physical therapist.
What are the benefits of aquatic therapy?
Aquatic therapy is beneficial for anyone trying to increase strength, decrease pain, and improve function. The treatment minimizes swelling, improves range of motion, gently builds strength and decreases the impact on joints. The buoyancy and warmth of the water decreases the impact on joints and reduces pain so range of motion and exercise is more comfortable than exercising on land. Buoyancy also supports the body during balance activities and reduces the fear of falling.
