Women are uniquely different from men and require specialized healthcare. There are many dimensions of care across a woman’s lifetime. From teen checkups, young adult health, family planning, pre and post-natal to pre and post-menopausal care. All of these health care services are collectively termed ‘women’s health.’ At Perham Health, we encourage regular visits with your provider to maintain optimal health by identifying risk factors, completing preventative tests and screenings, and treating conditions appropriately when needed.
Today, we are fortunate to have technology that helps with early detection of some cancers and research that supports the treatment of cancers to be most effective when started early. The pap smears to screen for cervical cancer and mammograms to screen for breast cancers are two examples of preventative healthcare for women. Women also need screening for things like cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, sexual or reproductive dysfunction, skin and bone disorders, and mental health. Statistically, women have different risk factors and possibly even different treatment recommendations for many conditions.
Think of your healthcare plan as a recipe. There are general recommendations to help achieve the best outcome. However, individualized scenarios can occur just as a recipe might need to be changed for certain desires or needs. As you go along, you may need to adjust the course of your healthcare plan (or tweak the recipe) to achieve the best outcome. Do you know what your recipe for health calls for? Contact your primary care provider to schedule an appointment and discuss your healthcare needs.
